I learned a short sharp lesson when I first went into business; within 9 months I was broke – not quite bankrupt – but not far away. I’d re-mortgaged our house, we had a baby daughter and I had left a very well paid job to go out on my own. I quickly found out I wasn’t Mr Marvellous and came back to earth with a bump. The only solution though was to get up and start again, I resisted the temptation to go back to work for someone, and having learned some very hard lessons I went on to build an organisation which I sold 4 years later to an international group. This was my second mistake, I got well paid for it but then I found myself back in corporate politics and no longer my own boss, the very reason I had gone out on my own in the first place! I began to think my business decision making skills were pretty poor. Despite the fact I was doing OK financially I was unfulfilled and bored.
Alongside all this something quite magical was happening almost without my involvement. Sue, my wife, of some 27 years now, had discovered Neways. She’d had some experience of network marketing or MLM and quickly found that Neways products really worked for her. Being a psoriasis sufferer she couldn’t use soaps shower gel and most skin preparations because they would irritate her skin. She found she could use all Neways products without this effect and this prompted her to become a distributor, initially to make a little extra money. However, the little extra income turned into the kind of income you’d expect from a full time job. At this stage I had started another business and was working all hours. Meantime Sue’s MLM income was climbing whilst she was still only doing part time hours, at this stage about 15 hours a week. As this continued to grow her income overtook mine and I started to think it was time to review my options. We talked about the idea of working together and took the plunge to do so some 9 years ago, needless to say it was with Neways not my business.
Our story isn’t so strange in MLM terms, many people find themselves drawn to networking because they want to achieve a little extra income, meet some new people, leave a legacy, create financial freedom, get out of the rat race, learn new skills the reasons are many and various however it seems to me there is one common thread, the desire to have more out of life whilst not risking the house and life savings.
